Machine Gun Preacher Sam Childers went to southern Sudan after a dramatic conversion to Christianity from a life of violence and crime. In 1998, Sam went to Southern Sudan while the African nation was in the midst of the second Sudanese War, to join a mission group to help repair huts damaged in the conflict. During this assignment he stumbled across the body of a child torn apart by a landline, and from that point he pledged to God to do whatever it took to help the people of southern Sudan. 
He then established an orphanage and lead armed missions to rescue children from the LRA.
13 years later the orphanage is the largest in southern Sudan and has fed and housed over 1,000 children. Today, more than 200 children call the orphanage home.
There are still many children suffering and in need of rescue.
